This project is an extension the owner’s modern exterior/interior renovation of a split level ranch in Ulster County. The directive of the design is to establish a screened patio and fire pit while defining a more structured approach to the front entry. In the use of cast-in-place board faced architectural/ retaining walls, pavers, ipe garden wall and plantings the hardscape anticipates and develops a relationship between the main house and future guest house. The construction was completed mid-Summer, and has been getting broken in since. We've posted some nice test shots. Keep an eye out for Phase II.

EBA gave a tired kitchen a much needed update. The update included custom cabinet refacing, new hardware, countertops, plumbing and light fixtures. A custom full height bulletin board was installed on the exposed end of the existing pantry. A set of three custom benches with felt pads were located along the wall in the dining area. This maximized seating while providing additional storage and minimizing clutter. Because of budget and schedule constraints, a complete renovation was not attainable. EBA worked closely with the client to identify their priorities, and developed a scheme that made best use of the available funds.

Proposal
2010
This was an preliminary proposal for a single family home on a beautiful sloping site. The intent was to design a "sub-urban loft" with an open plan that made efficient use of a minimal footprint and maximized the spectacular view. Formally the concept is three interlocking volumes stacked-skewered-shifted to respond to the elevated road to the North as well as the significant grade change to the South. The volumes are simply detailed incorporating a minimal material pallet. Varying textures allow the surfaces of the volumes to be animated through out the day by the tracking sun.

As a part of Phase II, EBA explored options that formalized a large but barren rooftop patio. The design intent was to develop a series of spaces that broke up the expanse of the patio and allowed for more intimate groups within a larger gathering. The interlocking wood forms take on different functions as they blur the boundaries between individual spaces. The painted steel screening element, provided a bit of privacy and an opportunity to effectively install lighting. Concrete pavers tied the spaces together and provided a durable walking surface.

Concept Study
2007
This study was born from an ideas competition for the adaptive reuse of abandoned subway stations around Berlin, Germany. The concept was defined through analog and digital explorations, resulting in a looping feedback of spectator and the spectacle. This loop was deployed on a subway station as a MTV broadcast studio in the commercial hub of Potsdamer Platz. Turning the volume up to eleven on the precedent developed in Times Square NYC. This studio employs spectators as a analog and digital backdrop to the broadcast. Ultimately the studio performs as beacon of youth culture, feeding into the commercial machine in which it is located.
